SpaceX wants to expand the network of Starlink’s internet constellation. To this end, the number of rockets launched in 2024 will almost double. With 144 rockets, the space company will have a mission almost every three days.
SpaceX wants 144 launches in 2024
According to a SpaceX official, the company’s launch targets for the coming year have become clear. Elon Musk’s space firm said they will create a big increase compared to 2023, which will end with about 100 missions.
Most of its planned launches in 2024 will involve putting new Starlink satellites into orbit. Other launches will include missions with other space companies, missions to the International Space Station and other launches such as Starship.
Achieving a pace of 12 launches per month requires a lot of optimization in SpaceX’s operations. The company has made significant strides in reducing turnaround times at its launch facilities. Engineers are also focused on improving reliability through greater quality assurance.
SpaceX’s ability to recover and reuse rocket boosters on Falcon 9 is notable for being usable up to 20 times. This sustainability reduces both costs and production needs compared to other launch systems.
SpaceX also wants to offer “Starlink Direct to Cell” service directly to smartphones in 2024. In the following years, it plans to serve as a GSM operator by expanding to voice and data services. Let’s see how the next year will go for the company.
