Alienware, known for its gaming computers and accessories, made an interesting experiment for gamers. It developed a 5 meter long keyboard and mouse. This fully functional mechanical gaming set is designed to play Dota 2.
Alienware’s record-breaking keyboard and mouse
Alienware engineers have gone viral on social media by making the company’s AW420K mechanical keyboard and AW720M gaming mouse much larger. The engineers scanned the actual products and enlarged them up to 14 times their normal size. The result is keys that are each almost a foot long.
A lot of work went into the construction of the oversized keyboard and mouse. Special PVC-coated copper components were used for the mechanical key switches, reflecting the authenticity of the product. Each of the 84 extra-large keys features a metal measuring tape for realistic clicking sound. The spacebar alone weighs almost 10 kilos and took three days to 3D print.
To demonstrate its functionality, Alienware also sponsored a Dota 2 e-sports team. Five players were tasked with using the massive keyboard and mouse. The video demonstrates basic drawing in Paint and typing six words per minute.
After the training, the team players played a match against bots in Dota 2. Although the gameplay was not easy, five people cooperated to win the match.
This product of Alienware was developed as a prototype. So it will not be possible to buy it anywhere. However, the company showed that the limits can be pushed in Dota 2 with its 5-meter-long keyboard.
