Game developers have been increasingly moving toward the live-service model, which offers a long-term experience and a continuous revenue stream. However, not all live-service games achieve the expected success, with a major example being Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
WB Games is making a new live service game
Following the releases of games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, MultiVersus, and Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, WB Games entered a restructuring phase. These titles’ underperformance resulted in a $300 million loss for the publisher in 2024. According to sources, $200 million of that loss came from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League alone.
Despite the financial setbacks from its live-service titles, WB Games has begun searching for an executive producer for a new, unannounced, high-budget live-service game based on the DC Comics universe. This move suggests the company is still committed to the live-service model.
A new job posting, noticed by Tech4Gamers, lists the executive producer’s responsibilities as “overseeing post-launch content and live-service strategy, and ensuring continued player engagement.” The ad also states that the ideal candidate must have “knowledge of industry trends and player expectations to keep the game competitive and up-to-date,” and have prior experience working on live-service games.
The new game’s title and which DC characters it will feature are not yet known.
