Although AI models simplify our lives by facilitating access to information and handling complex tasks, they also usher in a dangerous trend: employee layoffs. A recent study shows that by 2030, major companies are likely to rely more on AI, increasing their rate of employee dismissals. Here are the details…
41% of Employees Could Lose Their Jobs Due to AI!
According to the Future of Jobs Report, 41% of employers are planning to lay off employees because of AI. The report highlights that large companies are considering reducing their workforce, especially by automating repetitive tasks. However, it also states that between 2025 and 2030, 77% of employers plan to retrain or upskill their existing workforce to make them more compatible with AI technologies.
The report identifies roles like postal service workers, executive secretaries, and payroll clerks as some of the fastest-shrinking positions due to the proliferation of AI. Surprisingly, even knowledge-based professions such as graphic designers and legal secretaries are climbing the list, showcasing AI’s growing capacity to handle information processing tasks.
Beyond directly causing job losses, the report also emphasizes AI’s potential to enhance human skills.
It is particularly noted that generative AI technologies can collaborate with humans in areas such as content creation and information processing, transforming work processes. However, instances like Dropbox and Duolingo, which have cited AI as the reason for layoffs, demonstrate that this transformation doesn’t always yield positive outcomes.
