Spotify, one of the most prominent music platforms, is currently in the spotlight due to an unsettling issue. Recently, some users noticed that searches for popular artists on the platform were returning +18 videos in the results. The incident, which quickly became a topic of discussion on social media through shared screenshots, has been confirmed by Spotify.
+18 Videos Appear in Spotify Search Results
Screenshots shared on social media platforms like Reddit reveal that searches for certain artists show +18 videos in the results. A striking example involves searches for songs by the British rapper and producer M.I.A., where results include videos featuring adult film actress Mia Khalifa.
The issue isn’t limited to just this case. The Verge reported finding multiple +18 videos in Spotify’s video section.
Following the widespread attention, Spotify acted promptly. A Spotify spokesperson confirmed the existence of these videos, stating that they violated the platform’s policies prohibiting explicit content and had since been removed. However, the platform has not disclosed how such +18 videos managed to bypass its content moderation systems.
Currently, it’s unclear if there are more explicit videos on the platform. A critical issue worth noting is that Spotify does not have a direct in-app option to report content. Instead, users need to copy the URL of the offending content and visit Spotify’s content reporting page.
