WhatsApp is finally making it easier to chat with an unlisted number. According to the new update, the messaging app will allow you to start a chat without adding the number to your contacts. Previously, you had to add the number to your contacts or save the chat as a draft.
How to chat with an unknown WhatsApp number?
The new feature, spotted by WABetaInfo, is now open to the WhatsApp for Android beta programme. To start a chat with an unlisted number, simply tap the chat button and then tap ‘Open chat’. You will also see unlisted numbers on this screen.
WhatsApp will ask you to add the number to your contacts during the chat. You can always skip this step. This innovation seems particularly important for those who want to start short and quick chats.
It also makes it easier to communicate with people who are not in your WhatsApp contacts. For example, if you receive a message from a courier or customer service representative, you’ll be able to start a chat without having to save the number.
- On the main WhatsApp chat screen, click the chat icon in the bottom right corner.
- Select the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner to search for contacts.
- Enter the number you wish to send a text message to.
- You will be given the option to send a message to this number (if you are using WhatsApp).
Meanwhile, WhatsApp continues to expand its web and mobile app integration. With the latest beta update for Android, the “Connect with Phone Number” feature has arrived for WhatsApp Web. This allows users to log in to the web interface without scanning a QR code.
The new feature is currently only available in the beta programme on Android, but is expected to be available to all users in the coming weeks.
