WhatsApp users are getting ready to get two new long-awaited video calling features. These features, which have been available on rival platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom for a long time, are finally being added to WhatsApp. So what are these innovations and how will they work? Here are the details…
Emoji reactions and raising hands feature are coming to WhatsApp video calls
A review of WhatsApp’s latest beta version (2.25.5.21) shows that the popular messaging platform is working to make video calls more interactive. Accordingly, users will now be able to send emoji reactions during video calls and use the raising hands feature when they want to speak without interrupting the conversation.

Emoji reactions will allow you to instantly react to what the other person says or does during a video call. WhatsApp will offer six different emojis for this feature: Thumbs up (approval), heart, smiley face, surprised face, crying face, and the gratitude emoji with hands together.
In addition, the Raising Hand feature, an innovation that will attract attention in meetings and group calls, is also coming. This feature will allow users to draw attention without interrupting the conversation, especially in crowded conversations. The “Raise Hand” option can be used with a new button added to the three-dot menu at the bottom of the screen during the conversation.
These features aim to make WhatsApp’s video call experience more modern and interactive. Although these functions, which have long been available in rival applications such as Zoom, Google Meet and even Signal, have been criticized for coming to WhatsApp late, it is definitely a welcome development for users.
