WhatsApp is making some design changes to integrate more with Meta’s other apps. Accordingly, the WhatsApp verified account badge will be different. In the latest beta for Android, verified business and channel accounts now have a blue checkmark instead of the previous green.
WhatsApp verification to be consistent across Meta apps
The transition of the verification badge on WhatsApp to blue comes with Meta’s “Meta Verified” program for businesses on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Meta Verified offers identity verification tools and marketing features to help businesses gain credibility and stand out.
WhatsApp’s verification program, which is still in the testing phase, will allow businesses to showcase that they are official accounts with a blue checkmark. However, the color change suggests that WhatsApp will soon fully adopt the Verified program.
The change of the Verified badge to blue is likely to be useful for both businesses and Meta apps. For example, users will see the same verification badge no matter which Meta service they interact with. Businesses can strengthen their brand through a single verification program.
On the other hand, WhatsApp recently announced that it is withdrawing support from dozens of older Android and iOS models. It said it was focusing its efforts on platforms used by the majority of users.
