An important privacy feature in WhatsApp, the ‘View Once’ feature, has encountered a significant bug. It was discovered that messages intended to be viewed only once could be repeatedly accessed by iPhone users. Meta confirmed the error and quickly released an update to fix the issue. However, this isn’t WhatsApp’s first error concerning this feature. Here are the details!
A Major Privacy Vulnerability in WhatsApp!
A bug was found causing WhatsApp’s ‘View Once’ feature to malfunction. Normally, with this feature, sent photos or videos can only be viewed once and then disappear. However, iPhone users were able to access the content multiple times by using a specific method.

Security researcher Ramshath explained the issue in a blog post, stating that it could be easily exploited. By going to Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage, selecting the sender’s chat and sorting by “Newest,” the ‘View Once’ content that should have been deleted could be accessed again.
Meta confirmed the bug after receiving the researcher’s report and quickly released a fix. The issue was addressed in WhatsApp version 25.2.3 for iOS. Users are strongly advised to update their apps immediately.
This bug only affected iPhone users. Given WhatsApp’s vast user base, this was considered a serious security vulnerability. Meta acknowledged the issue and assured users that they were working on preventative measures.
If you value your privacy on WhatsApp, make sure your app is up to date. Installing the new bug fix update is essential to restore the security of the ‘View Once’ feature.
