Exciting developments have emerged for AMD’s next-generation graphics processors, the Radeon RX 8000 series GPUs based on the RDNA 4 architecture. According to leaked information, AMD will launch at least one RX 8000 series GPU model in January 2025. We expect the company to fully unveil the RDNA 4 architecture at CES 2025 and then quickly start selling the new model. So what will the new GPUs offer?
First RX 8000 GPUs based on AMD RDNA 4 architecture launch in January 2025
First, AMD is expected to start with a high-end model like the RX 8800 XT. As with RDNA 3, the flagship models will debut first, followed by mid-range and entry-level GPUs (e.g. RX 7600 and RX 7800). This time, however, instead of directly competing with Nvidia’s high-end GPUs like the RTX 5090 and 5080, AMD is focusing on the mid- and entry-level.
The company’s strategy is aimed at users looking for a price/performance balance. Based on the RDNA 4 architecture, the RX 8800 XT is said to sit somewhere between the previous generation’s RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX models in terms of rasterization performance. The lower-cost Navi 44 GPUs are expected to deliver performance between the RX 7600 XT and RX 7800 XT.
In other words, AMD’s goal is to produce cost-effective and efficient GPUs while avoiding high prices. We expect AMD to fully unveil the RDNA 4 series at CES 2025. It’s worth noting that the announcement comes at a time of increased competition from the RTX 50 series GPUs.
