Exciting news for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed when new Call of Duty games will be available on the subscription service. In an interview with Game File, Spencer announced Microsoft’s ambitious plans to include all future titles from Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax (including Bethesda and iD Software) and Xbox Game Studios on Game Pass from release day.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer announces new Call of Duty games coming to Game Pass on day one
“Our goal is to have the entire portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard and Xbox Game Studios on Game Pass from day one,” Spencer said, signaling that the Game Pass library will grow to include highly anticipated titles from some of the biggest game publishers in the industry.
While Microsoft has already announced that Diablo 4 will be included in Game Pass, Spencer’s comments suggest a broader vision to integrate all past Call of Duty titles into the subscription service.
While Spencer sees the inclusion of new Call of Duty titles in Game Pass as a strategic move to attract players, other industry leaders, such as Sony and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, disagree with the idea of AAA titles being released on day one on subscription services. Zelnick, in particular, has expressed concerns over the potential loss of revenue for publishers and the overall viability of the model.
Despite the divergent viewpoints, Spencer remains optimistic about the future of Game Pass, noting that work is underway to make existing Activision Blizzard titles available simultaneously on both PC and console platforms.
In short, we expect potential blockbusters like the new Call of Duty game developed by Treyarch, rumored to be set during the Gulf War era, to be released on Game Pass on day one.
