Apple updated its new Mac Studio model with the M3 Ultra chip, while also offering a configuration with the M4 Max chip. However, the M4 Ultra chip was not introduced and Apple made a clear statement on this issue. According to the company, there will be no Ultra chips in every generation.
Apple’s statement: There will be no chips like the M4 Ultra in every generation
Apple stated in its statement that not every M series chip will reach the Ultra level. In other words, users expecting an Ultra chip for the M4 series may probably be disappointed. So far, the M1, M2 and M3 chips have been powered by Ultra versions. However, Apple hinted that it has no such plans for the M4 Ultra.

Naturally, this situation has raised questions about the future of the Mac Pro. Currently, the Mac Pro comes with the M2 Ultra chip. Apple caused the Mac Pro to fall further into the background with the upgrade of the Mac Studio to the M3 Ultra. If Apple does not produce the M4 Ultra, it is said that the Mac Pro may make a big leap with the M5 Ultra in the future.
There is also talk that this could weaken the Mac Pro’s position in the market, as the performance gap between it and the Mac Studio is gradually decreasing. Although the price difference is large, the power offered by the Mac Studio may be sufficient for many professional users at the moment.
Judging by Apple’s stance, we can say that the company no longer wants to offer an Ultra chip in every generation. Instead, it may be aiming to optimize chip production costs and expand its product portfolio more controlled by offering a powerful option at the Max level.
Do you think Apple’s skipping the Ultra chip is a significant shortcoming for Mac Studio and Mac Pro users? Is Apple saving the M5 Ultra directly for the Mac Pro? You can write your opinions in the comments section below…
