The highly anticipated new game in The Witcher series, The Witcher 4, was recently unveiled at The Game Awards 2024. A line from the game’s trailer sparked questions among fans: “A new saga begins. See you on the path.” These words seemed to hint at the legendary hero of the previous games, the Butcher of Blaviken, Geralt. However, with the new game confirmed to have Ciri as the protagonist, fans were left wondering whether Geralt would make an appearance.
Will Geralt Be in the Game?
Let’s address the question without delay: Yes, Geralt will be in The Witcher 4. The voice heard in the trailer belongs to none other than Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt. However, CD Projekt has chosen to remain tight-lipped about Geralt’s role in the game. The company teased fans with the statement: “Geralt will appear in the game, but we don’t want to reveal details about his role just yet. You’ll have to wait to find out more.”
At the end of The Witcher 3, Geralt was enjoying his retirement at his vineyard in Toussaint. However, the timeline of the series provides a logical foundation for his return. CD Projekt’s story and universe designers, Cian Maher and Marcin Batylda, shed some light on this in a recent interview.
Maher referenced the plot of the novel Season of Storms, highlighting the possibility of Geralt existing for many years:
“In this book, events take place in 1373, exactly 101 years after The Witcher 3. In the series, we see a white-haired, unnamed character hunting a monster. His behavior and appearance suggest that it’s Geralt. Therefore, we can expect Geralt to remain in the universe for quite some time in one way or another.”
While CD Projekt is carefully keeping hints about Geralt’s return under wraps, fans are eagerly speculating about the extent of his role in the new game. What do you think? Would you like to see Geralt play a significant role in The Witcher 4? Share your thoughts!
