Apple continues to be indecisive about adding a foldable model to the iPhone series: Recent reports indicate that there is a small possibility of a foldable model in the iPhone 16 series. So why is the American tech giant so hesitant about foldable phones? Here are the details…
A foldable device was worked on for the iPhone 16 series
According to sources close to Apple, the company’s journey with foldable phone production developed as follows: In 2021, the company began working on various prototype models and accelerated these efforts from 2023 onwards.
In January and February of this year, the company conducted a durability test on Samsung’s Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 models. They found that the prototypes they were considering were much less durable and would not be viable for long-term use, so they shelved the project to revisit it later.
However, recent information suggests that Apple has not completely abandoned the foldable phone development process. The American tech giant is expected to produce millions of foldable MacBooks by 2026 and has a similar long-term project for the iPad. It is likely that Apple will not ignore foldable phones either.
Looking at the patent registered by Apple, we see sharp lines that we are not used to seeing from Apple. In this sense, we might encounter a model that differs from the classic iPhone silhouette. Of course, since it is in the early development stage, it is very difficult to say anything about the technical details and hardware of the device for now.
