Microsoft is preparing to completely renew the Start menu in Windows 11. In the new design, which aims to make the user experience simpler and more functional, the long-criticized “Recommended” section will be closeable.
Windows 11 will renew the Start menu
In addition, the Start menu will switch to a single-page scrollable layout, allowing users to access both pinned applications and all installed applications more easily. The current Windows 11 Start menu is divided into three main sections: Pinned Applications, Recommended Content, and All Applications List.

With the new design, this structure is replaced by a wider and longer menu. Users will be able to navigate between pinned applications and all applications more quickly thanks to the new scroll panel.
A new option is added to the settings for the “Recommended” section, which has been particularly criticized. With this setting, users can completely disable recommended files and applications in the Start menu.
However, turning off this feature will also affect the recent files tab shown in File Explorer. Microsoft is expected to make these two options independent of each other in the final version.
The new Start menu is not only improving its appearance but also its functionality. The “All Apps” section will be displayed in three different layouts: list, grid and category. Microsoft has not yet officially announced the new design, but the update is expected to be available to users in the second half of the year.
We should also note that the design, which is currently in the testing phase, may undergo some changes in the final version. So what do you think about this? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
