Microsoft is testing a new feature in Windows 11 preview versions that will allow users to create GIFs directly from the operating system. The Screen Snipping application, which has long been limited to taking screenshots and recording videos, now allows the production of animated images, namely the GIF format, within the system.
Windows 11 brings an unexpected innovation
This innovation aims to complete the user experience directly from the operating system by eliminating the need for third-party software. GIF support is available to test users in Windows 11’s Dev and Canary channels.

The new function integrated into the Screen Snipping tool in these versions allows users to select a specific part of the screen and make short recordings and export these recordings directly in GIF format.
The GIF format, which is widely used especially in areas such as social media sharing, digital guide content and technical explanations, was previously produced with external software on Windows. The new feature allows this need to be met from within the system.
The GIF recording feature offers not only visual content production, but also quality settings according to user preference. The recording time is limited to a maximum of 30 seconds, while users can choose between low and high quality.
This makes it possible to adjust both the file size and image resolution according to needs. The feature also provides ease of use, as it is integrated directly into the Snipping tool’s interface.
This function, which is still in the testing phase, is expected to be included in the stable version of Windows 11 in the future. So what do you think about this? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
