Steam continues to share the results of its regular hardware and software surveys conducted every month. Recently, the platform published data for December, revealing the most preferred hardware and software choices among players. So, what are the most commonly used operating systems by gamers?
Most Preferred Operating Systems – December 2024
Steam has shared the most used operating systems for December. In this regard, Windows 11 saw a 6.16% increase compared to November, boosting its market share to 54.96%, claiming the top spot.
In second place is Windows 10. The operating system, which has been rapidly losing market share, saw a 5.07% drop compared to October, with its market share standing at 42.39%. Meanwhile, Windows 7, which once dominated the scene but has recently lost support for updates, recorded a 0.13% decline, taking a 0.15% share of the market.
Windows 11 System Requirements:
- Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster, 2 or more cores, compatible 64-bit processor or System on Chip (SoC)
- RAM: 4 GB
- Storage: 64 GB or larger storage device
- System Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable
- TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
- Graphics Card: WDDM 2.0 driver with DirectX 12 or higher compatibility
- Display: High-definition (720p) display greater than 9 inches diagonally, 8 bits per color channel
- Internet and Microsoft Accounts: Windows 11 Home requires an internet connection and a Microsoft account to complete the initial setup. All Windows 11 versions require an internet connection for updates and to download and utilize certain features.
