Microsoft plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance the search feature in the Windows 11 operating system. Although the search function in Windows 11 was designed to help users find anything on their computers, much like the Spotlight search feature in macOS, many users have complained that it doesn’t work as well as expected.

To address this long-standing issue, Microsoft aims to make the search feature more powerful by incorporating AI. According to reports from Windows Latest, the company intends to improve the weak aspects of the search function using AI.

This upcoming feature will allow searches within audio and video files. It may also be linked to Microsoft’s controversial AI-powered feature called Recall, which takes snapshots of your device’s activities, enabling specific content searches and creating a timeline.

The AI-powered media search feature, discovered in the new Windows 11 build 27695, will become available once the necessary AI models are downloaded to your device. The system will first analyze the audio or video file you wish to search, and then these models will enable searchable content. For instance, if you’re searching for an audio clip containing a particular word, typing that word will bring up the relevant clip.

Microsoft’s efforts to improve Windows 11’s search functionality with AI aim to provide users with a more efficient and useful tool. However, it’s crucial that these innovations are implemented with privacy and security in mind, as AI’s benefits also raise concerns about user privacy.
