The PC market is undergoing significant change. According to Canalys data, AI-enabled computers accounted for 20 percent of total shipments in the third quarter of 2024. This represents a significant increase in device adoption.
AI-enabled computer sales skyrocket
A total of 13.3 million AI-enabled computers were shipped in the third quarter of 2024. Accordingly, Windows devices took the lead for the first time with a 53 percent market share. This is a significant change compared to the previous quarter, when macOS models had a 59 percent market share.

macOS’s market share is currently down to 47 percent. Accordingly, the main reason for the decline in macOS-based device sales is the progress in the roadmaps for AI-enabled computers.
According to the study, Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon X series chips have reached full availability for the first time. AMD launched Ryzen AI 300 products and Intel officially launched its Lunar Lake series.
The integration of these processors into Copilot+ PCs is critical to the adoption of AI-enabled devices. However, the study said that the Copilot+ platform may be slowed down by the 40 NPU TOPS and high hardware specifications it requires.
The study also found that 31 percent of manufacturers do not plan to sell Copilot+ PCs until next year, and 34 percent think these devices will account for less than 10 percent of PC sales next year.
