In the 2024 holiday season, Microsoft’s gaming division surpassed its competitors to become the largest gaming publisher in the industry. With its portfolio that includes Activision Blizzard King, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios, Microsoft Gaming made headlines with record-breaking revenue during this period.
Microsoft Gaming Achieves Record Revenue, Secures Top Spot
According to analysts, Microsoft Gaming earned a total of $465 million from Xbox, PlayStation, and PC games in December 2024. This figure surpassed its closest competitor, Electronic Arts, which earned $366 million during the same period, propelling Microsoft to the top.

One of the major contributors to Microsoft Gaming’s success was the immense popularity of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The game became the best-selling title of the year in several regions, with in-game purchases making up a significant portion of the revenue.
Another noteworthy point is that 64% of Xbox’s revenue came from PlayStation versions of the games. This highlights the effectiveness of Microsoft’s multi-platform strategy.
In 2024, Microsoft announced its plans to support the new Switch 2 console from Nintendo and continue releasing games for the PlayStation platform. It seems that the company will maintain this approach in the future. Xbox President Phil Spencer has stated that their multi-platform strategy will continue beyond 2025, reaffirming their goal to reach as many players as possible.
