Microsoft and Xbox are taking action for some Activision games that are no longer available. In this context, Activision is in talks with the studio to bring back Marvel games that are more than 10 years old. The company may reintroduce these games as Xbox exclusives.
Microsoft wants to bring back Activision Marvel games
After the big success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Xbox is buzzing with activity. Microsoft is allegedly working to relicense some games developed by Activision years ago. The company wants to bring Deadpool and Marvel Ultimate Alliance back to the shelves.
Both games were published by Activision before it was acquired by Microsoft. However, Activision was prevented from selling as a result of the license rights expiring. So the naming rights of the games have passed to Marvel.
The reacquisition of licenses will allow Xbox to re-release games on PC and Xbox Series consoles. Deadpool, in particular, was a big hit when it was released as a third-person action game in 2013. But with Activision losing the Marvel license, the games are no longer available for purchase.
The re-release of iconic superhero games could have a new impact on the market. In fact, second-hand boxes of Deadpool can fetch more than $100. Re-licensing the games could meet the demand.
Of course, it is unclear whether Microsoft will only release these games on next-generation consoles or whether they will be redeveloped. Since these games are from the PS2 and PS3 era, it is very difficult to keep up with today’s conditions.
