Xiaomi is reshuffling the cards in the smartphone world with its new flagship, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which it is preparing to launch next week (likely December 25-26). The company announced that it is taking its strategic partnership with Leica a step further, moving beyond just “joint R&D” to a “co-creation” model.
Leica APO Certified Telephoto Lens
This new era means that the Leica signature will be felt much more deeply in every stage of the hardware and software. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be equipped with a Leica APO (Apochromatic) certified telephoto lens, a first in the mobile world. Considered the gold standard in photography, APO technology ensures that the three primary colors (red, green, blue) fall into the same focal point, reducing chromatic aberration to zero.

The 1-inch main sensor, discontinued in the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, returns with the 17 Ultra. However, this time the sensor has been designed from scratch specifically for mobile devices.
Low Light Performance: Xiaomi promises a revolutionary advancement in image clarity and detail reproduction in low-light environments. Detail Reproduction: Crystal-clear photos can be taken even in challenging lighting conditions.
It’s not just the camera; the power behind the device is also breathtaking:
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
- Battery: A surprising 7,000 mAh capacity increase (100W wired, 80W wireless charging).
- Display: 2K resolution, flat-design LTPO OLED panel.
Thanks to this new “co-creation” model with Leica, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra aims to transform the smartphone camera from just a feature into a professional optical solution.
