The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is nearly here and if early details are anything to go by, it could be one of 2025’s most compelling camera phones. Chinese buyers are already lining up with deposit money in hand, while Xiaomi insiders continue teasing its standout imaging tech.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra preorders begin with blind deposits

Xiaomi’s official Weibo storefront has quietly opened reservations for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, allowing early adopters to secure a unit with a 100 yuan (~$14) deposit. Although the device hasn’t been formally launched yet, the listing leaves little doubt: “Xiaomi 17U is coming?!!” teases the post, suggesting full details are just hours away.
Camera gets Lofic tech confirmation
CEO Lu Weibing didn’t name-drop the phone outright, but he did confirm that Lofic (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) sensors are coming to Xiaomi’s camera lineup. This aligns with leaks suggesting that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will use a 1-inch Omnivision OV50X sensor. Lofic enables high dynamic range in a single exposure and suppresses LED flicker and image noise especially in tough lighting.
Leica tuning for 35mm portrait shots
Leakers now claim Xiaomi has tuned the Ultra’s 1-inch sensor specifically for 35mm-style portrait photography. It’s not a dedicated 35mm lens like on the Vivo X200 Ultra, but the Ultra’s large sensor allows smart cropping with little quality loss. Early tests point to promising results in depth blur and low-light scenes.
What else to expect from the Xiaomi 17 Ultra
Alongside the new Lofic sensor and 35mm tuning, Xiaomi appears to have gone deep on the photography stack. Several upgrades are being teased:
- Enhanced bokeh and filter tuning for portraits
- Real-time processing for live photos
- Smooth zoom video with better clarity
- Stronger backlight performance
- Focus tracking and stabilization closer to DSLR levels
Countdown begins for its launch
The official preorder window is tipped to open between December 15 and 25. Xiaomi hasn’t set a final reveal date, but leakers say it could happen within hours. For now, what’s clear is that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra isn’t just another spec bump it’s shaping up to be the flagship to beat, especially for camera obsessives.
