Xiaomi President Lu Weibing made an exciting announcement on China’s popular social media platform Weibo. He announced that the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 foldable screen phone will be launched in August. The new phone is expected to feature a horizontally foldable screen and a number of changes to the hinge design.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 to launch in China in August
Xiaomi, which prefers to stay relatively in the background in the foldable smartphone world, is looking to break that silence with the Mix Fold 3. Having made some improvements to the Mix Fold 2, which was announced in August last year, the company has decided to launch it in August once again.
Xiaomi has made sure that the Mix Fold 3 is thin when folded. Currently, the folded screen of the Mix Fold 2 model is 11.3 mm thick, but the company aims to make it thinner.
Another important detail of the Mix Fold 3 will be the Leica sensors. The Chinese manufacturer, which previously collaborated with Leica on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, is promising an advanced photography experience. It is expected to have a periscope sensor that will offer a 5x optical zoom.
The technical specifications of the new foldable device are currently unclear. There are claims that it will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the most powerful chipset on the market, and will support 50W wireless charging. In terms of design, it seems likely that the Mix Fold 2’s setup will be retained.
Xiaomi has not yet launched its foldable phones on the global market. The fact that the first official information about the new model was shared on Weibo suggests that it will remain specific to China. However, it is expected to challenge its competitors, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
