Xiaomi has taken the first step of its comprehensive strategy with the Xring O1 processor it recently introduced. The Xring O1 is currently only used in high-end products such as the 15S Pro and Pad 7 Ultra. However, Xiaomi’s plans for the upcoming period show that it will not limit its processor production to the flagship class.
Xiaomi is gearing up in the processor sector
Lu Weibing, one of the company’s executives, stated in a statement that chipsets that will be specially developed for affordable smartphones are also planned. Xiaomi aims to integrate these processors, which are its own production, into mid-range and low-end devices over time.

Xiaomi’s processor development efforts are not limited to just the main chipset. The company is also working on its own 5G modem. However, it is stated that this project is still in the early stages. Considering the technical difficulties Apple experienced with its new C1 5G modem, it is predicted that Xiaomi may face similar obstacles.
Alternatively, simplifying certain features of the current Xring O1 processor and adapting it to more affordable devices is also among the options. If this scenario happens, Xiaomi will have a say in a very wide range of products on the processor side.
Xiaomi’s moves in processor and modem development show that the company aims to become not only a smartphone manufacturer but also a platform provider that establishes its own technological infrastructure in the long term.
