Xiaomi made a smart move to overcome the challenges in producing its first electric vehicle, the SU7. By partnering with major battery manufacturers CATL and BYD, Xiaomi plans to increase the production capacity of the SU7. Here are the details of this exciting development for electric car enthusiasts…
Xiaomi to use CATL and BYD batteries to boost SU7 production
With the high demand for the SU7, Xiaomi had to increase its production capacity. As a solution, Xiaomi decided to use CATL and BYD batteries in entry-level SU7 models. These two major battery manufacturers will help diversify Xiaomi’s supply chain, ensuring a steady supply and speeding up the delivery process.
The battery technologies from CATL and BYD are indeed impressive. These batteries offer a range of 700 kilometers on a single charge, providing high performance for users. Additionally, with fast charging capabilities, they can add 350 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. This makes long journeys with these batteries a breeze.
Starting in June, Xiaomi plans to implement a dual-shift production system in its factory, aiming to exceed 10,000 units per month in deliveries. Launched in March 2024, the Xiaomi SU7 gained significant interest with its three variants: Standard, Pro, and Max. Offered at competitive prices starting from $29,800, the SU7 appeals to budget-conscious consumers.
The standard version was initially powered by BYD’s blade batteries but will now also benefit from CATL’s battery technology. The Pro version will use CATL’s Shenxing Battery, while the top-tier Max version will feature CATL’s Qilin Battery. Each variant offers different battery capacities and ranges, providing customers with the best option to meet their needs.
