Xiaomi’s flagship SU7, which made a significant impact on the automotive world, is preparing for a refresh before even completing its first year. Recent reports from China indicate that the tech giant will subject its electric sedan model to a comprehensive “facelift” operation in the second quarter of 2026.
The Target: Tesla Model 3
This move is seen not only as a technology update but also as a strategic operation launched by Xiaomi to revitalize its sales. The most striking detail about the refreshed Xiaomi SU7 is its price tag. According to leading automotive experts in China, the price of the new model will increase by approximately 20,000 RMB (around €2,420) compared to the current version. With this increase, the starting price of the vehicle is expected to be around 235,900 RMB (€28,600).

Interestingly, this new price is almost identical to the starting price of the Tesla Model 3 in China (235,500 RMB). Xiaomi is sending a clear message to consumers by leveling the playing field: “Our technology is at least as valuable as Tesla’s.”
So why is Xiaomi making such an early refresh? The answer lies in the latest sales figures. According to November data, SU7 deliveries fell sharply by 46 percent compared to the same period last year, dropping to 12,520 units.
The biggest reason for this decline is another Xiaomi factor: the YU7 SUV model, introduced in June and gaining immense popularity among families. Breaking a record with 33,729 deliveries in November, the YU7 has begun to steal customers from the brand’s sedan model. Xiaomi wants to attract the attention of sedan enthusiasts again by refreshing the SU7.
To justify the price increase, Xiaomi is expected to make significant improvements in both hardware and software. While all the details are not yet clear, expectations are as follows:
More Advanced Batteries: Longer range and faster charging times.
Powerful Processors: Faster chips for autonomous driving and in-car entertainment systems. Premium Interior: Improved material quality and a more modern cockpit design.
Xiaomi EV has a very busy agenda. The company aims to expand its product range with three new models:
- YU9: A large SUV model. This vehicle is expected to be Xiaomi’s first EREV (Range Extended Electric Vehicle) model with a small gasoline engine that charges the battery while driving.
- YU7 GT: A performance-oriented, sporty version of the YU7.
- SU7 L: A longer-wheel-drive sedan option focusing on rear-seat comfort.
By updating the SU7 and launching new models, Xiaomi seems determined to prove that it is not just a “smartphone manufacturer” in the electric vehicle market, but a giant competing head-to-head with Tesla.
