The Yakuza series is finally getting a TV series. Amazon shared the first trailer for Like a Dragon: Yakuza series shared the first trailer. The live action series will be broadcast on Prime Video.
Like a Dragon: Yakuza series has been given a date
Like a Dragon: Yakuza will focus on Kazuma Kiryu, the main protagonist of the series. Japanese actor Ryoma Takeuchi will appear as Kiryu. Kento Kaku, who will play Akira Nishikiyama, is also among the lead roles.
The series will be directed by Masaharu Take. Speaking at Comic-Con, Amazon executives said that the series will deal with modern Japan and the intense character stories that games can’t explore. Details are still vague, but it looks like viewers will follow the underworld of Yakuza.
The first three episodes of Yakuza will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 24. We expect to see more videos and trailers from the series before then. Shot in Japan and in Japanese, Amazon plans to subtitle and dub the series for international audiences.
Yakuza will continue Amazon’s push into game adaptations. It will compete with other series based on popular games, such as HBO’s The Last of Us and Peacock’s Twisted Metal.
The history and chronology of Sega’s Yakuza games is very hard to follow. Continuing since the original Yakuza in 2005 and most recently releasing its ninth game, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth in January 2024, which was a huge success for SEGA.
