YouTube, the world’s largest video-sharing platform, experienced a wide-ranging access issue that began yesterday evening (Turkish time) and affected a wide area. Millions of users were unable to play any videos despite being able to log in. The issue affected users trying to access YouTube both on the website and through mobile apps, quickly becoming a global trending topic.
YouTube Down Globally
Users encountered various error messages when trying to play a video. Users of YouTube’s website saw the message “An error occurred. Please try again later,” while apps on Android and iOS mobile devices displayed the message “Something went wrong.” While the platform’s core functions, such as search and channel pages, continued to function, the inability to play videos brought the service’s core functionality to a standstill.

The outage wasn’t limited to the main YouTube platform. YouTube Music, Google’s music service, also experienced similar streaming issues, and users were unable to listen to music online. However, previously downloaded offline content was reportedly not playing any problems. The outage reportedly affected users primarily in the United States and Europe.
While the issue persisted, Google’s other services remained unaffected. The US-based YouTube TV platform, along with enterprise services like Google Workspace and Google Cloud, continued to operate without interruption. Following a swift response by YouTube officials, the general access issue was completely resolved around 1:00 a.m. Turkish time, and all services on the platform returned to normal.
