YouTube is taking its fight against artificial intelligence-sourced content on the platform to a new stage. The company decided to expand access to the technology that detects the unauthorized use of users’ faces and voices. According to the official announcement published, this feature now also covers professionals in the entertainment industry. Talent agencies, management companies, and celebrities will be able to use this tool to detect content carrying their likeness.
New Measures Against Deepfake Content
The system works with a logic similar to YouTube’s existing Content ID infrastructure in terms of its working principle. The technology, scanning the contents on the platform, identifies videos that are generated with artificial intelligence and carry a person’s likeness.

When it is determined that the detected contents are unauthorized, the relevant right holders can request the removal of these videos. This feature was first made available for a limited user group in 2024. Later in the year, the scope was expanded, and state officials, journalists, and political candidates were included in the system.
Now, with the addition of names in the entertainment world, it is aimed to reduce deepfake content on the platform. With the development of artificial intelligence technologies, the unauthorized use of personal likenesses has become an important problem. With this new step, YouTube aims to protect its users and increase platform security. Do you think this move by YouTube will be enough to solve the fake content problem on the platform?
