YouTube has made a new statement that it will limit the use of third-party apps that block ads. The platform, which has been gearing up its ad blocking efforts for a while, has started to show warnings to some users.
YouTube gets tougher on ad blocking ban
In a blog post published the other day, YouTube stated that people who use ad blocking applications violate its terms of service. Therefore, if videos are watched with an ad blocker, there may be errors in loading the content. Users will also be shown an ad blocker warning.
Ad blocking is a major blow to YouTube, which uses ad revenue to support content owners. Ad blocking also prevents the platform and content creators from making money. This goes against the company’s policies.
On the desktop version of YouTube, it is still possible to block ads through browser extensions. However, third-party mobile apps that circumvent ads are completely banned. The company said that users who block ads also affect creators’ revenues.
In this context, it said ads are important to fund “free access to YouTube’s vast library”. It should be reminded that users who do not want to watch ads can switch to YouTube Premium.
YouTube wants to prevent ad skipping while maintaining user satisfaction. For example, YouTube’s TV app has changed its advertising policy. Similar to TV channels, you will now see a single long ad of a few minutes between videos.
