YouTube has received different features over the years, such as Shorts. However, the platform’s interface has not seen a major change except for minor renovations. It was stated that YouTube may switch to a new design on the video screen. While the entire screen will be video, it will be replaced by description and recommended videos.
What will the new YouTube design look like?
According to users who experienced the test, YouTube will change the video viewing interface on its desktop site. The platform will remove the video description and title from the player area. With the redesign, these sections will be moved to the sidebar panel.
The description, which has appeared at the bottom of the video for years, will now appear on the right side of the screen, along with other details such as “Comments”. Recommendations videos, on the other hand, are now placed in the area where the description used to be.
Initial comments from users on social media have been largely negative about the changes. Many said the redesign made it difficult to follow the content of the video. They argue that it blurs the line between video and recommended videos.
It was noted that with the new design, all videos are nested. The redesign also shelves the old interface where YouTube offered suggestions in the form of a list to avoid interrupting the viewing experience.
It should be noted that this interface is only being tested on the desktop version for now. In this context, the company confirmed that it is being tested on a significant portion of the YouTube website globally. It is possible to continue with the old design after negative comments from users.
