Viewers in Turkey are experiencing a major transformation in their television viewing habits. According to a study conducted by Vestel, YouTube viewing time surpassed that of satellite broadcasts in July and August. This report, prepared by Vestel’s IoT team by analyzing consumer data, reveals the rise of digital platforms and the decline in interest in traditional television broadcasts.
Turkey’s YouTube viewing time peaks
According to the study, YouTube accounted for 43 percent of total viewing time this summer, while satellite broadcasts accounted for 36 percent. Vestel Marketing General Manager Duygu Badem Uylukçuoğlu interprets this as “an indicator that television is no longer merely a broadcasting device but an interactive space at the center of digital life.”

This trend aligns with the growing content consumption habits, especially among the younger population. Social media influencers, online series platforms, and personal content creators offer viewers the freedom to choose content based on their interests, independent of traditional broadcast schedules.
This situation is also pushing television manufacturers and broadcasters to rethink their strategies. This radical shift in audience preferences sends a strong signal that the future of the broadcasting industry will be shaped by digital platforms.
