A shocking theft of Apple merchandise has rattled New Hampshire. Guangwei “William” Wu, a local resident, recently admitted his guilt in a grand scheme to steal Apple goods valued at $2M. The District of New Hampshire’s United States Attorney’s Office confirmed the news.

Orchestrating the theft

As the proprietor of Hai Xing Qiao, a shipping company in Manchester, Wu was entrusted with forwarding a large shipment of Apple devices to a Hong Kong-based company in 2022. This order consisted of several popular Apple products, including iPads, iPhones, Apple Watches, and MacBooks.

However, Wu accepted an enormous bribe from a second Hong Kong company, totaling more than $700,000. Instead of shipping the Apple products to the original company, he redirected the $2M worth of goods to the company that bribed him.

Covering up the scheme

To conceal his illicit activities, Wu falsely informed the original company that US law enforcement had confiscated their shipment of Apple devices. He even fabricated a “Disclaimer of Ownership” document, which he claimed was issued by the United States Postal Office, complete with a counterfeit federal agent’s signature.

Unraveling the $2M Apple deception

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Postal Inspection Service conducted a joint investigation. This operation revealed Wu’s fraud. Wu may now face severe legal consequences. These could include a prison sentence of up to 10 years. A fine of up to $250,000 is also possible. Furthermore, Wu must repay $2M in restitution to the company he deceived.
