As you know, power banks are one of the most popular accessories among smartphone users. However, this beloved product is now making headlines due to a massive recall. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that over 500,000 power banks manufactured by the Charmast brand and sold exclusively on Amazon over the past six years are being recalled due to safety concerns. Here are the details…
Risk of Melting, Explosions, and Fire
The affected power banks, model number W1056, were available in black, blue, green, mint, pink, and white colors. Serious risks have been identified during their use, including melting, overheating, emitting smoke, and even catching fire. Charmast has admitted to 44 reported incidents involving such failures.
CPSC has urged consumers to stop using these devices immediately. Customers in the U.S. who purchased the product are advised to contact Charmast to learn how to return the power banks and receive a full refund.
According to Charmast’s refund process, customers must first take a photo of their device along with their name and the date written visibly in the frame. Additionally, they are required to cut the power cable and include it in the return package. Refunds will be issued once the product is received.
CPSC has emphasized that these power banks must not be discarded in regular trash or standard battery recycling bins. Lithium batteries require specialized disposal methods. Consumers are advised to follow local regulations for safe disposal.
Although the Charmast brand has no officially distributed products in certain regions, including Turkey, if you’ve acquired a device from this brand via international or alternative channels, it’s worth checking the model number for safety.
Stay safe and take the necessary precautions!
