Samsung launched its foldable phones the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Now, the company seems to be working on a dual-screen phone. According to the leaks by some sources, Samsung filed the patent, entitled “Electronic apparatus comprising a transparent display,” for a dual-screen phone. Let’s check the details about the Samsung dual-screen phone.
Samsung might be working on a dual-screen phone
Samsung filed the patent “Electronic apparatus comprising a transparent display” back in January, but the sources published it this week. Actually, ZTE, the Chinese phone manufacturer, launched the Nubia X with a front-facing 6.26-inch LCD display carrying a resolution of 1080 x 2280 in 2018. The company added a 5.1-inch lower resolution OLED display on the back (720 x 1520). Now, Samsung is coming with a new dual-screen phone according to the reports from SamMobile.
Samsung could use a smaller and transparent screen that hides in plain sight when not in use. The patent defines, “visually expose an inner region (eg, a color or a pattern implemented in the exterior of the electronic device) or be selectively activated to provide various types of visual effects.”
The patent explains, “According to various embodiments disclosed in the present document, an electronic apparatus comprises a housing comprising a first surface and a second surface facing in a direction opposite to the first surface. A first display which is arranged on the first surface and outputs a screen in a first direction; and a second display which is arranged on the second surface and outputs a screen in a second direction that is an opposite direction to the first direction, wherein the second display may be configured to be at least partially transparent to visually expose at least a portion of an inner area of the second surface. Various other embodiments are possible.”
Currently, Microsoft has a dual-screen phone, the Surface Duo 2, with two 5.8-inch AMOLED displays. The company used Gorilla Glass Victus with a 1344 x 1892 resolution, connected by a pair of hinges. Samsung’s phone could be different from this phone with its features. Note that, this is only a rumor patent application. There is no guarantee that Samsung would produce a dual-screen phone. However, we could see a new phone with Samsung’s long-term strategy.
