Apple’s new mixed reality headset has been expected for a long time. Although there is no announcement yet, the rumors reveal that the new VR/AR headset could launch as soon as spring. Now, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg said that the name of the operating system of the reality headset could be “xrOS” which is different from the previously expected name. Here are the details about Apple’s new mixed-reality headset.
New mixed reality headset will use both VR and AR
The rumors about the new VR/AR device were revealed in November 2017 first. Its operating system was expected to name reality Operating System (rOS). However, it seems that Apple changed the name of the software, and now it turns from rOS to Extended Reality Operating System (xrOS). The leak comes from some workers inside Apple, and they claim that the name indicates the headset’s support of both VR and AR.
According to expectations, Apple will offer smooth transitions between VR and AR thanks to the new mixed-reality headset. The device could have Apple’s powerful M2 SoC and sport up to 15 cameras on the head tracking sensors. Additionally, it will have a spatial audio feature that is available on the AirPods Pro to deliver surround sound or 3D audio. Thanks to this feature, users will have access to all sounds from above them, behind them, on their sides, or below them.
Another leak is about the Apple Glasses. According to reporters, the tech giant is developing a pair of smart glasses. However, Apple could be developing its software, and features to be different from Google Glass. Since Google failed with this device, Apple should follow its steps in producing Apple Glasses.
Apple’s new reality headset may be available in the next few months, but there is no official announcement yet. That’s why we can expect the announcements of the Reality headset and Apple Glasses. The rumors say that the glasses will be more powerful, smaller, and cheaper.
