Following the teaser images released a few days ago, Mercedes-Benz officially announced the return of its iconic concept car. The German manufacturer unveiled the Vision One-Eleven, a fully electric sports car concept developed in line with the C111 concept.
Replacing the Mercedes-Benz C111 with the Vision One-Eleven concept
With this announcement, the spirit of the C111, an experimental car series that showcased new technologies in the 1960s and 1970s, has returned. Similar to the C111, Mercedes-Benz will incorporate their new technologies into the Vision One-Eleven concept.
In the C111 concept, the German manufacturer featured various Wankel and diesel engines, but in the Vision One-Eleven model, they have included an electric power unit. The concept model includes a new battery concept with high-performance liquid-cooled round cells and a dual-axis electric motor.
The dual-axis electric motor used in the concept model is a product of ‘Yasa,’ the British electric motor specialist acquired by Mercedes-Benz in 2021. Yasa’s next-generation axial flux motors will be manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz facility and form the core of electric powertrains in the performance class.
Mercedes-Benz claims that their new motors and batteries take up a significantly small space while providing racing-level performance. The liquid-cooled cylindrical cell battery, developed with inspiration from Formula 1, is considered an important step for electric vehicles.
When we look at the design of the concept car, it is evident at first glance that it draws inspiration from the iconic C111 model. We can say that the overall form of the car, including its color, remains largely preserved. The C111, which already looks like it came from the future, has been given a more modern appearance by Mercedes-Benz, who also created a cockpit reminiscent of a spaceship in the interior.
Mercedes-Benz seems to be showcasing their new technologies, just like they did with the C111 in the past, through the One-Eleven. What are your thoughts on the Mercedes-Benz C111 and Vision One-Eleven concept models? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
