In recent days, there has been a lot of discussion about some people using Apple’s AirTag tracking device for purposes other than its intended use. According to this, malicious individuals can track the whereabouts of people they want using AirTags. However, Apple and Google have come together to address this potentially dangerous situation.
AirTag can now be detected by Android devices.
To eliminate the dangers posed by this unwanted use of AirTag, Apple and Google have been working together for a while. The new Android security update released by Google is also part of this partnership. airtag android
Apple and Google, who are working together against the misuse of AirTag in this way, now allow the tracking device to be detected by Android phones as well. With the new update, Android users will be able to determine if there is an AirTag tracking device nearby.
You can enable this feature on your Android phone by following these steps:
- Open the ‘Settings’ section on your phone.
- Then enter the ‘Security and Emergency’ section (for Android 12 and newer versions). (For Android 11 and older versions) You need to enter the ‘Personal Safety’ section.
- Then you will see a new option called ‘Unknown Tracker Alerts.’
- By activating this option, you can scan for any unwanted AirTags around you.
After enabling this setting, your Android phone will periodically scan its surroundings for unknown Bluetooth tracking devices placed on you or nearby. The feature will alert you if it finds something and will also keep a record of when the last unwanted tracking was done.
On the other hand, in addition to automatic scanning, you will also be able to manually detect whether there is an unwanted AirTag in your vicinity with the ‘Scan Now’ option. The phone, which will scan its surroundings for 10 seconds, will notify you when it detects a suspicious situation. Additionally, the identification of the tracking device will be facilitated by an audible alert from the AirTag.
Apple and Google aim to prevent the malicious use of AirTag by jointly developing this system. For now, it’s worth noting that this system can only be used for detecting AirTags. So, what are your thoughts on AirTag and the recent issues? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
