In recent years, the interest in SUV models has begun to influence electric vehicles as well. Many manufacturers are focusing on SUV models for their electric vehicle lineup. One of these brands is undoubtedly KIA, the South Korean automaker, which has added another electric SUV to its lineup with the new EV5.
KIA EV5 makes its appearance in China
KIA introduced the new electric SUV model, EV5, at the Chengdu Auto Show in China. Following the EV9, the EV5 is the brand’s second SUV model and is aimed at younger users and small families with its compact dimensions.
While KIA has shared the initial images of the vehicle, it’s quite reserved about the details. We’ll only be able to access more information about the new compact SUV model during the EV Day event the brand will hold in November.
When we examine the design of the new model, we can see that the EV5 follows in the footsteps of its larger sibling, the EV9. The new electric SUV mode appears as a scaled-down version of the EV9, with its angular lines and slim LED lighting group, showcasing an innovative design.
Inside the new model, a highly minimalist layout awaits. The SUV model, dominated by a dual-screen setup, features very few physical buttons. Most controls are accessed through the steering wheel and the touchscreen infotainment display. The vehicle also boasts ambient lighting with 64 different colors, standing out as another prominent feature.
Although the dimensions of the vehicle have not been officially announced yet, they have been revealed in documents from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Accordingly, the new electric SUV model measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height. Despite its compact size, the EV5 offers a spacious interior with a wheelbase of 2,748 mm.
KIA plans to launch the new compact SUV model, the EV5, in the Chinese market towards the end of 2023. It is expected to be available in other markets in 2024. What are your thoughts on the new KIA EV5? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
