Apple seemed to have given up on the “mini” versions of its iPhone and iPad models in recent years. The last member of the iPad Mini series, the 6th generation Mini, was introduced in late 2021. However, new claims showed that a surprise iPad Mini 7 model could arrive by the end of the year.
iPad Mini 7 to be introduced before the end of the year
New reports from China indicate that Apple is working on a “small-sized” iPad for the fourth quarter of this year. By placing an unexpected order for the iPad with manufacturers in China and India, Apple has bolstered claims of a 7th-generation Mini.
Apple has not renewed the iPad Mini series since 2021. In addition, the Mini name was not used in the iPhone 14 and 15 models, indicating that Apple had lost interest in small screens. However, in recent months, many leaks about the small-screen iPad model have emerged.
The iPad Mini 6, unveiled in 2021, comes with an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display. It is powered by the A15 Bionic chip. The seventh generation is expected to keep this screen size but switch to the Apple Silicon chip.
In addition, it seems possible that there will be some improvements in the camera with features such as the Photonic Engine offered by Apple Silicon. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support were added to iPad Pro models, and new standards are expected to finally come to the iPad Mini family.
In response to all these leaks, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that production of the seventh-generation Mini will not start until the first quarter of 2024. So it remains to be seen whether Apple will pull off a surprise iPad launch in the coming months.
