Heartsteel, the new group of League of Legends champions, has released its first single PARANOIA, which gives us a glimpse into the band’s musical style. The track is currently available to stream on platforms such as YouTube and various streaming services, and given the history of LoL-related music, it is set for a quick chart ascent.
The League of Legends bands have added another one to their roster: Heartsteel
Unlike previous LoL bands that tended to have a specific genre, Heartsteel brings together artists from different genres. This results in a track with different sections, where each verse of PARANOIA offers a different sonic experience.
It’s a bit of a confusing listening experience at the beginning, but eventually it becomes a coherent whole. It’s worth noting that it’s not as easy to sing along to as past hits like POP/STARS or the current Worlds anthem GODS.
However, in true Riot style, the production quality is outstanding and the band’s sound becomes quite catchy after a few listens. Expectations for more music from Heartsteel are high and if they keep up this distinct style and keep things fresh, a full album will be eagerly welcomed.
What sets the track apart is the variety of real-life artists who lend their voices to the in-game characters. Heartsteel features League of Legends champions Ezreal, Kayn, K’Sante and Sett as vocalists, each voiced by a different artist. BAEKHYUN, a member of K-pop groups EXO and SuperM, lends his voice to Ezreal in the group.
Kayn is voiced by Los Angeles-based rapper Cal Scruby, known for his clever lyrics and creative visuals. Sett is portrayed by ØZI, a singer-songwriter, music producer, artist and creative director. Finally, K’Sante is performed by Tobi Lou, a multi-talented artist who is making a notable impact on the contemporary music scene.
