Veteran PlayStation console gets new update

18 years old veteran console PlayStation 3 received an update. Let's take a look at the details of the update together.

Yesterday, Sony released the expected PlayStation 3 system software update 4.91. The PlayStation 3 update patch updates the console’s Blu-ray player.

About the PlayStation 3 update patch, hackers warn that the update renders the existing jailbreak non-functional. The official update notes say the following about the 200MB update: “This system software update improves system performance. Please note, your PS3 system requires a refreshed Blu-ray player encryption key to play Blu-ray discs. Please update the Blu-ray player encryption key by refreshing your PS3 system software.”

These annual patches still frustrate hackers. All existing jailbreak tools will have to be updated. As noted on the jailbreak forum PSX Place, those who accidentally update their system software will have to wait for all jailbreaks to be updated by hackers. There is no way to roll back the system software. Resetting the system doesn’t work either.

Sony’s PlayStation division is laying off a lot of people

According to a leaked Sony graphic, the PlayStation 3 still has millions of monthly active users. However, official support for the console has officially ended. Will you be patching the PlayStation 3 update? What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
