Farewell to the Iconic Windows Application at Age 30!

With the release of the Windows 11 24H2 version, the WordPad application will be removed. Here are the details...

Microsoft is planning major revisions with the release of the 24H2 version for Windows 11. In addition to the wider deployment of the AI-powered Copilot, old applications are also planned to be removed from the system. Among these is the iconic WordPad application.

Since 1995, WordPad has been included with Windows as a basic text formatting application for document writing. However, the growth of both Office and Word, along with the development of web-based applications, has rendered WordPad unnecessary.

Many of the features found in WordPad are now accessible for free with other Microsoft products. For example, Word Online offers much more extensive features without requiring any installation. Additionally, automatic synchronization of files across devices is possible.

Even the much simpler Notepad, known for its simplicity, now supports features such as tabs, autosave, and the AI assistant Copilot. This means that there is no longer a need for WordPad.
