Steam is home to many titles with a vast library of thousands of games. The digital store’s most played games are usually made up of certain titles. But the free game Banana has amassed more than 750,000 players in just a few days.
Banana game approaches 800,000 players on Steam
First released on Steam in April, Banana has exploded in popularity in recent weeks. Accordingly, it has become the second most played game on the digital store. As of the past day, the game has reached 798 thousand players instantly, and even now it is being played by 750 thousand people.
While Banana’s player count was around 37 thousand at the beginning of June, it rose to over 700 thousand on June 15. This rapid rise has made Banana one of the top 10 most played Steam games of all time in terms of concurrent players.
Banana seems to have made a big splash, both for its simple gameplay and its recent popularity on social media. Players click on bananas to increase an on-screen meter, which drops rare items available on Steam.
However, questions have also been raised about the authenticity of Banana’s player count. Accordingly, the developer acknowledged that it was facing significant bot activity. He stated that he thinks only half of the players are real. Some speculate that bots are collecting rare skins to sell on the Steam Marketplace.
