China wants to heat up the competition in the graphics card race. Nvidia, which makes a big noise with its high-end models, has to fight with a brand called Loongson. According to the latest statement from Loongson, the new graphics card developed by the company is at the same level as the RTX 2080.
Loongson 9A2000 will be at RTX 2080 level
Loongson is preparing to make an ambitious debut in the GPU market dominated by Nvidia and AMD. Loongson, known for its MIPS architecture, said it could rival the RTX 2080 with its new graphics card called 9A2000.
In a recent interview, Loongson CEO Hu Weiwu claimed that the 9A2000’s gaming performance could rival the RTX 2080. This is a huge improvement over Loongson’s current RX 550-level 9A1000.
The company is also betting on pricing. The price of the new model was not disclosed, but he said they want to be competitive for the RTX 2080 level.
It said the 9A2000 will be 8 to 10 times faster than the 9A1000 thanks to design optimizations. The new graphics card will be able to run current games like Black Myth: Wukong at 1080p resolution on high-ultra settings.
Loongson’s claims are noteworthy, considering that the RTX 2080 is still a powerful card for 1080p in today’s games. The company is looking to expand its product range by adding graphics cards to its Loongson 3A6000 and 3B6600 processors for servers and desktops.
Loongson also claimed that the 9A2000 will offer better energy efficiency than models from Nvidia and AMD. However, he did not specify how this would be achieved. Driver support for Loongson’s models is also still a question mark.
