LG Display has once again showcased its stretchable displays that it previously unveiled at CES 2023. The company, which appeared at the Seoul Fashion Week in Korea, believes that wearable devices can be made from stretchable displays.
LG is developing stretchable displays for wearables
LG Display placed clothes and bags equipped with flexible and lightweight screens on the models as part of the show on the runway. These screens developed by LG come with a thin and fabric-like structure that can adapt to the body.
The fashion show demonstrated that the screens can stretch and bend over 14 inches, without any damage during these processes. This shows what LG can do with micro-LED panels. The company is even collaborating with some fashion designers.
LG Display has not yet announced the technical specifications of the stretchable screens in detail. However, it shared examples of some usage areas at Seoul Fashion Week. According to the company, these displays can be placed on the arms or various parts of the body as wearable devices. Of course, it is unclear how the power and connectivity of these devices will be provided.
LG thinks that stretchable displays will usher in an era of “technological devices that can be worn comfortably like clothes”. With the development of technology, smart clothing and skin-mounted electronic devices could become a reality.
Of course, LG is not alone in this field. Other tech giants like Samsung and Apple are also working on stretchable display technologies.
