Hyundai’s all-electric Ioniq 5 SUV has reached a major milestone in driverless vehicle technology , becoming the first autonomous vehicle to pass human-driven testing in the U.S., marking a significant step toward widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 passes driving test
The Ioniq 5 underwent testing at a test center in the United States, demonstrating its driving capabilities. The vehicle was evaluated in a variety of scenarios, including cruise control, lane changes and maneuvers, complete stops, left turns, lane keeping, and responding to unexpected situations.
The Ioniq 5’s performance has impressed test center officials who are unfamiliar with evaluating driverless vehicles. The feat is expected to have significant implications for the future of autonomous vehicle technology. If other driverless vehicles can pass the same tests, it could allay widespread concerns about autonomous vehicles.
According to research, about 70 percent of Americans are concerned about traveling in driverless vehicles, and the Ioniq 5’s tests could play a significant role in changing perceptions.
Hyundai is collaborating with Motional for autonomous driving tests. Through their collaboration, the Ioniq 5 benefits from Motional’s expertise in areas such as sensors, localization and control algorithms.
It has been stated that the companies will start conducting public road tests in states such as Nevada and California. The new tests are expected to improve autonomous driving.
