Meta has accelerated its efforts for a new VR headset that will appeal to the affordable market. The price of the device, called Meta Quest 3S, was leaked thanks to a listing on Amazon. So what does the new generation glasses offer?
Meta Quest 3S will be 299 dollars
Leaked information suggests that the Quest 3S with 128GB of storage will have the same price as the 64GB Quest 2, which was released in 2020. The glasses will allegedly launch with a price tag of $299. This makes the Quest 3S one of the most affordable VR headsets on the market.
In terms of performance, the Quest 3S will reportedly use the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip. But to keep it affordable, it opts for the same Fresnel lenses used in the Quest 2. The Quest 3S will also feature the side-pass cameras found in the Quest 3, but with lower resolution.
Some features such as battery capacity and 3.5mm headphone jack are expected to change slightly compared to Quest 3. It seems likely that the Quest 3S will have a slightly shorter battery life and the headphone jack will be removed.
Despite all these details, Quest 3S is expected to appeal to both standard users and customers new to VR.
Meta is expected to officially announce Quest 3S at the Connect event on September 25th. With its $299 price tag, Quest 3S plans to spread the virtual and mixed reality experience to a wide audience.
