The Recall feature, one of the innovations Microsoft plans to bring to Windows, has been postponed once again, and this time the target is December 2024. We can briefly define the highly anticipated Recall feature as a feature that will create a timeline by taking screenshots regularly to enable users to find their past activities on Windows more easily.
Microsoft Windows’ Recall feature postponed to December
Recall will allow users to quickly see what they have already done in Windows and search through their activity history. However, when the feature was first announced, it raised some privacy and security concerns, and Microsoft had to delay the launch several times in response to feedback from users and security experts.
The Recall feature was originally set to launch in June 2024, but was pushed back to November due to security concerns. Now Microsoft has announced that it will wait until December to make the feature more secure. It plans to open the feature first to Windows Insiders – trial users of Windows – to evaluate feedback.
Microsoft official Brendon LeBlanc stated that this postponement was made to provide users with a more secure and reliable experience. This feature will only be available on Copilot+ supported computers. This means that in addition to the minimum hardware requirements of 16 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD, the computer must have an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) capable of at least 40 trillion operations per second.
These requirements have been made mandatory due to the high processing power demanded by the features. With this hardware support, Recall will analyze users’ activity history and provide instant access. We can say that the Recall feature, which is expected to be released in December, will be very useful for those who work with large projects or users who frequently refer to their activity history.
However, given the privacy and security concerns, it is crucial that Microsoft gives users full control over this feature. Let’s see how this innovation will be received by Windows users when it goes live in December. What do you think about it?
